The short version
- UAE News is a free news aggregator. We don't write the news. Publishers do, and every story links to them.
- News, prayer times, weather, exchange rates, property figures and holiday dates are for general information only. They can be late, incomplete or wrong. Check official sources before you rely on them.
- The App is provided “as is”, with no guarantees, and our liability is limited as far as the law allows.
- Publishers can ask us to remove their content at any time.
1. Agreement
These Terms of Use (the “Terms”) are an agreement between you and Mohammad Jabbari, the developer and publisher of UAE News (“we”, “us”, “our”). They apply to the UAE News mobile application on iOS, iPadOS and Android, its widgets and notifications (together the “App”), and to the website at mjabbari.com/uaenews (the “Site”).
By downloading, installing, opening or using the App or the Site, you confirm that you have read, understood and accepted these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the App or the Site, and delete the App.
2. Who can use the App
The App is a general news service and is not directed at children under 13. You may use it only if you are at least 13 years old, or older where your country requires it. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use the App only with the involvement of a parent or guardian, and only they should make purchases. You must be legally able to accept these Terms, and you must not use the App where doing so is against the law.
3. What the App is
The App is a news aggregator and reader. We do not write, commission, edit, verify, fact-check or publish news. The App automatically collects headlines, short excerpts, publication times and thumbnail images that publishers make publicly available through RSS feeds and similar public channels. It then organises them and links every story to the publisher's own website, where the full story can be read. Videos are played through YouTube's official embedded player.
We are not the author, publisher or editor of any third-party content in the App. That content is the sole responsibility of the publisher or person who created it. Any opinion in it belongs to its author, not to us.
4. Automated features
Much of the App works automatically, with no human review. This includes:
- ranking “Top stories”;
- grouping coverage into “Developing stories”;
- assigning stories to emirates and topics;
- choosing which stories trigger breaking-news alerts;
- “Trending” terms, search results, related stories and reading-time estimates;
- photos chosen for emirate pages and headers;
- the word-game clues and facts.
These features use simple rules and may be wrong. For example, a story may be grouped with unrelated stories, assigned to the wrong emirate or topic, shown out of order, or missed. A story's position, label, grouping or alert does not mean we judge it to be important, accurate or true, and is not an endorsement.
5. Information only, not advice
All content and information in the App and on the Site is provided for general information only. It may be incomplete, out of date, delayed or inaccurate, and you should not rely on it as your only source for any decision. In particular:
- News comes from third parties and may be wrong, changed or withdrawn by the publisher after the App shows it.
- Prayer times are calculated on your device using a standard astronomical method, or from published timetables. They may differ from the official times of your local mosque or the General Authority of Islamic Affairs, Endowments and Zakat (Awqaf). They are not a religious ruling. Please follow the official timetable and the adhan in your area.
- Islamic holidays and the Hijri date are estimates. They depend on official moon sighting and government announcements, which may differ.
- Public holidays are shown from published information and may change. Follow official government announcements.
- Weather forecasts come from a third-party service and may be wrong. Do not use them for safety decisions. Follow the National Center of Meteorology and official warnings.
- Exchange rates are indicative mid-market figures from a third-party service and may be delayed. They are not an offer and are not suitable for transactions.
- Property figures come from public open-data sources and may be incomplete or out of date. They are not a valuation.
Nothing in the App or on the Site is legal, financial, investment, tax, real-estate, medical, religious, safety or other professional advice. Always check important information with the official or original source and, where appropriate, a qualified professional.
6. Notifications are not emergency alerts
Breaking-news alerts and the daily briefing are generated automatically on your device. They depend on your device's settings, battery, background-refresh rules and network. They may be late, missing, repeated or wrong. UAE News is not an emergency, public-safety or official alert service. Do not rely on it for warnings about weather, safety or emergencies. Follow the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority (NCEMA), the police and other official channels.
7. Third-party content
- All headlines, excerpts, articles, photographs, videos, names and trademarks shown in the App belong to their publishers and owners. We claim no ownership of them, and each item is attributed to its source.
- The App shows only short extracts, for the purpose of reporting the news and directing readers to the original source. The full story is always on the publisher's own website.
- Showing a publisher or a story does not mean that publisher endorses the App, or that we endorse the publisher, its content or its views.
- Publisher names are used only to identify the source. The App does not claim any affiliation with any publisher, government entity or brand. UAE News is an independent app and is not an official app of the UAE Government or of any emirate.
8. Copyright and removal requests
We respect the rights of publishers and creators. If you believe content shown in the App infringes your copyright or other rights, or you are a publisher who does not want to appear in the App, email apps.jabbari@gmail.com and include:
- your name, organisation and contact details;
- the content, feed or source concerned (a link or screenshot is ideal);
- a statement that you own the rights or are authorised to act for the rights holder;
- a statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorised.
We will review every request and, where appropriate, remove the content or stop using the source, normally within 7 days. Because the App reads feeds directly on users' devices, a removal takes effect when users receive the next App update or refresh. We may also remove any content or source at any time at our discretion.
9. Links and third-party services
The App and the Site link to and rely on services we do not control. These include publishers' websites, YouTube, Google (AdMob, Firebase, Google Play), Apple (App Store, StoreKit), weather, exchange-rate and image providers, and the operating system of your device. We are not responsible for their content, accuracy, availability, security, privacy practices or legality, or for any loss caused by them. Your use of them is at your own risk and under their own terms. For example, videos are subject to the YouTube Terms of Service. Any dealings between you and a third party are solely between you and them.
10. Feeds you add
The “Your feeds” feature lets you follow any website or RSS feed you choose. You are solely responsible for the sources you add, for their content, and for following their terms and the law. We do not review, host, control or endorse that content.
11. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- copy, republish, redistribute, sell or commercially exploit content obtained through the App;
- remove, hide or change any attribution, copyright notice or link;
- scrape, data-mine, decompile, reverse-engineer, modify or create derivative works of the App, except as the law expressly allows;
- interfere with, overload or disrupt the App, the Site, or the services they connect to;
- tamper with ads, purchases or licence checks;
- use the App to break any law, including the UAE's laws on cybercrime, media and intellectual property, or to infringe anyone's rights.
12. Our rights and your licence
The App and the Site belong to us and are protected by intellectual-property laws. This covers the software, design, interface, graphics, icons, word-game puzzles and our own original text. Third-party content is excluded. We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable and revocable licence to install and use the App on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use, under these Terms and the rules of the store you downloaded it from. All rights not expressly granted are reserved. If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them freely and without any obligation to you.
13. Ads and purchases
- The free version shows ads served by Google AdMob. Advertisers alone are responsible for their ads and for any products, services or claims in them. Seeing an ad is not an endorsement by us.
- The optional “Remove ads” purchase is a one-time, non-consumable purchase. It removes ads only; all other features are free. It is processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play), not by us, under their terms. We never see your payment details.
- Refunds are handled only by Apple or Google under their refund policies. We cannot issue refunds ourselves, except where the law requires it.
- You can restore the purchase on devices using the same store account, from Settings in the App. We are not responsible if a purchase cannot be restored because of a store, account or device problem outside our control.
- Prices are set in the store and may change. A purchase covers the App as it exists and does not include any promise of future features, updates or availability.
14. Changes and availability
We may change, add, suspend or remove any feature, source or content, and may update or stop offering the App or the Site, at any time and without notice or liability. We do not promise that the App will be available in every country, work on every device or operating-system version, or keep receiving updates or support. Features depend on third-party services that may change or stop working.
We may update these Terms from time to time. The “Effective” date above shows the latest version. Material changes will be posted on this page. If you keep using the App or the Site after an update, you accept the updated Terms.
15. Disclaimer of warranties
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the App, the Site and all content, information and services in them are provided “as is”, “as available” and “with all faults”, without warranty of any kind. We expressly disclaim all warranties and conditions, whether express, implied or statutory. These include warranties of merchantability, satisfactory quality, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, completeness, timeliness, reliability, quiet enjoyment, title and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the App or the Site will be uninterrupted, timely, secure or error-free, that defects will be corrected, that content will be accurate or complete, or that the App, the Site or the servers they rely on are free of viruses or other harmful components. You use the App and the Site at your own risk.
16. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event will we, or our contractors, licensors or service providers, be liable for any of the following, however caused and under any theory of liability, even if we have been advised of the possibility of them and even if a remedy fails of its essential purpose:
- any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages;
- any loss of profits, revenue, business, opportunity, goodwill, reputation or data;
- any loss or damage arising from: (a) your use of, or inability to use, the App or the Site; (b) any content, information, prayer time, forecast, rate, figure, date, notification or link in or through them; (c) any error, omission, delay, interruption or inaccuracy; (d) any third-party content, website, advertisement or service; (e) any decision or action you take based on the App or the Site; or (f) unauthorised access to, or alteration of, your device or data.
Our total aggregate liability for all claims relating to the App, the Site or these Terms will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid for the App or in-app purchases in the twelve (12) months before the event giving rise to the claim, and (b) one hundred UAE dirhams (AED 100).
These limits apply to the fullest extent the law allows, and they are an essential basis of the bargain between us: the App is offered free or at a very low price because of them. Some laws do not allow certain warranties or liabilities to be excluded or limited. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under the applicable law, such as liability for fraud, wilful misconduct or gross negligence, or your mandatory rights as a consumer. In those cases our liability is limited to the minimum the law permits.
17. Your responsibility and indemnity
You are responsible for how you use the App and the Site and for any decision you make based on them. You are also responsible for your device, its security and settings, your internet connection, and any data or mobile charges. To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify, defend and hold harmless us and our contractors, licensors and service providers. This covers any claim, demand, loss, liability, damage, cost or expense, including reasonable legal fees, arising from: your use or misuse of the App or the Site; your breach of these Terms or of any law; feeds or content you add or share; or your violation of anyone else's rights.
18. Events beyond our control
We are not responsible for any failure or delay caused by events beyond our reasonable control. These include failures or changes of publishers' feeds, third-party services, app stores, operating systems, internet or power networks, hosting providers or cyber-attacks; acts of government; natural disasters; epidemics; war; and civil unrest.
19. Ending these Terms
You may stop using the App at any time by deleting it. We may suspend or end your access to the App or the Site at any time, with or without notice, including if you breach these Terms. When these Terms end, your licence ends and you must stop using the App. Sections 3 to 5, 7, 12 and 15 to 22, and any other terms that by their nature should survive, will survive termination.
20. Disputes and governing law
- Talk to us first. If you have a complaint, email us and give us 30 days to try to resolve it informally before you start any formal proceedings.
- Governing law. These Terms, and any dispute or claim arising out of or relating to them, the App or the Site, are governed by the federal laws of the United Arab Emirates and the laws of the Emirate of Dubai, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
- Courts. The courts of the Emirate of Dubai have exclusive jurisdiction, and you and we submit to them. This does not apply where the mandatory law of the country you live in gives you the right to bring a claim in your local courts.
- Individual claims. To the extent permitted by law, claims may be brought only on an individual basis and not as a plaintiff or class member in any class, collective or representative action.
- Time limit. To the extent permitted by law, any claim must be brought within one (1) year after it arises, or it is permanently barred.
21. Apple and Google
If you downloaded the App from Apple's App Store
- These Terms are between you and us only, not Apple. We, not Apple, are solely responsible for the App and its content, to the extent stated in these Terms.
- Your licence is limited to use on Apple-branded products that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions. Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies. Where it conflicts with these Terms, these Terms prevail to the extent permitted.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the App.
- If the App fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any) to you. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the App.
- Apple is not responsible for handling any claims by you or a third party relating to the App or your use of it. This includes product-liability claims, claims that the App fails to meet any legal or regulatory requirement, consumer-protection and privacy claims, and claims that the App infringes a third party's intellectual-property rights.
- You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as “terrorist supporting”, and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
If you downloaded the App from Google Play
The Google Play Terms of Service also apply to your download and to purchases made through Google Play. Google is not a party to these Terms and is not responsible for the App or its content.
22. General
- Entire agreement. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us about the App and the Site.
- Severability. If any part of these Terms is found invalid or unenforceable, it will be enforced to the maximum extent permitted, and the rest will remain in full effect.
- No waiver. If we do not enforce a right, that is not a waiver of it.
- Assignment. You may not transfer your rights under these Terms. We may transfer ours, for example if the App is sold.
- Export. You must comply with all applicable export-control and sanctions laws.
- Language. These Terms are written in English. The Arabic summary below is for convenience. If the two differ, the English version prevails to the extent permitted by law.
