Music IR: Instant Rhythm
Effective date: 31 October 2026 Applies to: Music IR for iPhone, iPad and CarPlay (and on Apple silicon Macs and Apple Vision Pro, where the iPad version is available), and the Music IR widgets, Control Center controls and share extension.
1.1 This Privacy Policy explains what information the Music IR app ("Music IR", the "App") handles, why, who receives it, how long it is kept, and the choices you have. "We", "us" and "our" mean the developer of Music IR. "You" means the person using the App.
1.2 To the maximum extent permitted by law, this policy is part of, and should be read together with, the Music IR Terms of Use at https://mjabbari.com/musicir/legal/terms.
1.3 The short version:
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the following is created and stored only on your device (and in your device backups, if you use them). We do not receive it:
3.1 Analytics events (Firebase Analytics). To the maximum extent permitted by law, we use a limited list of events to understand which features are used and whether things work: for example that a feature was opened, that an import finished (with counts only), the file type of an imported or converted file (for example "mp3"), that a tool such as Fix My Library or Identify Music was used, whether a permission was granted, that the paywall was shown, and that a purchase was completed (with the product type). The App filters every event on the device before it is sent: song titles, artists, file and folder names, web addresses, search terms, podcast and station names are never included in analytics events.
3.2 Crash and diagnostic reports (Firebase Crashlytics). If the App crashes or hits a serious error, a report with the stack trace, device model, operating system version, App version, free memory and disk space, and a Crashlytics installation identifier is sent so that we can fix the problem.
3.3 Support emails. If you email apps.jabbari@gmail.com, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include. We use it only to answer you and to keep a record of the request.
3.4 Share links. If you or someone you share with opens a Music IR link (getmjb.app/musicir, which is served by mjabbari.com), our web host receives the standard information any website receives (IP address, browser type, the address requested and the referring page) in order to send the visitor to the right app store. The link may carry a short campaign tag (for example "src=app") so that we can count, in aggregate, which channels bring visits. The web host keeps standard server logs for a limited period under its own policy. When you use the system share sheet, we do not learn whom you share with.
3.5 App settings and More Apps. To the maximum extent permitted by law: the App downloads a small settings file from mjabbari.com (for example, the list of websites excluded from media detection) and, when you open More Apps, the list and images of our other apps. These are plain requests that carry no identifier from us. Our web host receives the standard information described in 3.4 and keeps its logs as described there.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the following third-party software development kits are built into the App. Each provider processes data under its own terms and privacy policy.
| Provider and SDK | What it receives | Why | More information | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Google Firebase Analytics | App-instance identifier, the analytics events described in 3.1, automatically collected events (first open, session start, App updates, in-app purchase), device model, OS version, language, App version, approximate location derived from IP address | Analytics, App functionality | https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy | Google Firebase Crashlytics |
| Crash reports as described in 3.2, Crashlytics installation identifier | Fixing crashes, App functionality | https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy | Google Mobile Ads SDK (AdMob) | If you allow tracking: the advertising identifier (IDFA). Otherwise: identifiers limited to the App, device and network information, approximate location from IP address, ad interactions (views, taps), ad performance and diagnostic data |
| Showing and measuring ads, preventing ad fraud, and (only with consent) personalised ads | https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites and https://support.google.com/admob/answer/6128543 | Google User Messaging Platform (UMP) | Your consent choices, device and region information | Asking for and storing your privacy choices where the law requires it |
| https://policies.google.com/privacy |
4.1 Advertising. Some screens in the free version of the App show ads served by Google: banner and native ads, full-screen ads at natural breaks and when you return to the App, and rewarded video ads. No ad is requested until the consent steps in 4.2 and 4.3 are complete. Ads are never shown in the Browser, on Apple Music screens, in CarPlay, in widgets, on the paywall or during onboarding. Now Playing shows no ads, except a small banner in its Up Next queue. Rewarded ads are always your choice: you may watch one to use a Premium feature once or to get more Fix My Library fixes. Google receives the same kinds of information for rewarded ads as for other ads, and the reward is recorded on your device. Premium (a subscription or the legacy one-time purchase) removes every ad the App serves, including rewarded offers. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we do not control, and are not responsible for, the content of ads or the data practices of advertisers, which are governed by their own policies.
4.2 App Tracking Transparency (ATT). The App asks for your permission before the advertising identifier can be used to track you across other companies' apps and websites. If you choose "Ask App Not to Track", ads may still be shown but will not use the advertising identifier. You can change this at any time in iOS Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking.
4.3 Consent in the EEA, UK and Switzerland. If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, Google's consent form is shown before any ad is requested. Analytics and advertising storage follow your choices (Google Consent Mode). You can review or change your choices at any time in the App under Settings › Privacy choices.
4.4 No sale of personal information. We do not sell your personal information for money. Where a law (for example California law) treats sharing an advertising identifier with an ad network for personalised advertising as "sharing" or a "sale", you can opt out by choosing "Ask App Not to Track", by declining personalised ads in Settings › Privacy choices, or by buying Premium.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, when you use the features below, the App connects directly from your device to the third-party service involved. That service receives your IP address, standard request information (such as device type, language and App version in the user agent) and the content of your request, and handles it under its own terms and privacy policy. We do not receive a copy, and we are not responsible for how those services handle your information.
5.1 Browser search suggestions.
5.2 Websites you visit and files you download.
5.3 Podcasts. Podcast search and charts use Apple's iTunes Search API and Apple's marketing feeds (Apple receives your search terms and IP address). Podcast feeds, episodes and artwork are loaded directly from the podcast publisher or its hosting service, which may count downloads and see your IP address.
5.4 Radio. The station directory is provided by the community service Radio Browser (radio-browser.info), which receives your searches and, when a station starts playing, an anonymous "click" for that station (as its rules ask apps to do). Streams are played directly from each station's server.
5.5 Music News. Headlines, text and images are loaded from the publisher's public feed and servers (currently NME, nme.com), which receive your IP address and standard request information.
5.6 Apple Music. If you use Apple Music in the App, the App uses Apple's MusicKit. Your Apple Music account, subscription and listening activity are handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy (https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/). We do not receive your Apple Account information.
5.7 Sync Music (local network).
5.8 CarPlay. CarPlay shows your library, playlists, Smart Mixes, favourite radio stations, podcasts and Now Playing on your car's screen. It shows no ads. The App does not collect vehicle data or location through CarPlay.
5.9 Sync to iCloud. To the maximum extent permitted by law: if you choose Sync to iCloud for a song, the song moves into the Music IR folder of your own iCloud Drive, with its artwork and song details (such as title, artist and duration), and syncs to your other devices signed in to the same Apple Account. iCloud is a service operated by Apple as a third party under Apple's terms and privacy policy (https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/). We do not receive, see or have access to anything stored in your iCloud account, and we accept no responsibility for iCloud's availability, storage limits, security, syncing, or any loss or deletion of files stored there. Nothing syncs to iCloud unless you choose it, and you can stop syncing a song at any time, which keeps it on this device only. Delete Everywhere removes a song from both this device and your iCloud Drive; deleting the App or its data does not touch your iCloud Drive files.
5.10 Song recognition (Identify Music and Fix My Library). To the maximum extent permitted by law: Identify Music and Fix My Library (including Identify This Song) use Apple's ShazamKit. The App creates a short audio signature on your device, from about 10 seconds of the song file or of the sound the microphone picks up while you listen, and sends only that signature to Apple to find a match. A signature is a digital summary of the sound, not a recording. Your song files and microphone audio are not uploaded and are not saved by the App. The App adds no name, account or identifier of ours to the signature, and we do not receive the signatures or the results, so we do not link them to you. To complete a match, the App may also ask Apple's iTunes service for the album and year (by Apple's song ID, with no identifier from us) and download the cover from Apple. Apple operates these services as a third party under its own terms and privacy policy (https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/). We are not responsible for those services or for the accuracy of any match. Changes are written into your files only after you accept them, and we are not responsible for any loss of or change to your files, tags or artwork; keep your own backups.
5.11 Siri. To the maximum extent permitted by law: if you ask Siri to play something by name in Music IR (such as a song, playlist, artist, radio station or podcast episode), Apple processes your request under its own terms and privacy policy (https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/). Siri gives the App the name you asked for, and the App matches it on your device and plays the result. We do not receive your voice or your request, and the request is not sent to analytics, crash reporting or advertising services. A request that names nothing does not start playback.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, subscriptions and the legacy one-time "Remove Ads" purchase (which unlocks lifetime Premium, as described in the Terms of Use) are processed by Apple. We never receive your payment card details or your Apple Account credentials. The App receives from Apple, on your device, the information needed to unlock Premium (such as the product, purchase and expiry dates). Firebase Analytics may record that a purchase took place (product and price) for aggregate reporting.
The App asks for a permission only when you first use the feature that needs it, and you can change any permission in iOS Settings at any time:
| Permission | Used for | Asked when | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Media & Apple Music | Showing and playing your Device Library and Apple Music | You tap Device Library or the Apple Music card | Microphone |
| Voice Recorder and Identify Music, only while you are recording or the App is listening | You start your first recording or first ask Identify Music to listen | Photos (add only) | Saving Music Visual Creator videos and images to Photos |
| Your first export from the Visual Creator | Local Network | Sync Music only | You tap Host or Join |
| Notifications | Local notifications on the device (section 2) | After you first start a Fix My Library scan, if you choose Allow | Tracking (ATT) |
| Personalised ads and ad measurement | Shortly after the first launch, before any ad is requested |
The App does not use your camera, contacts, calendars, precise location or Bluetooth.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, where the EU or UK GDPR or a similar law applies, we rely on:
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
10.1 Depending on where you live (for example the EEA, UK, Switzerland, UAE, California and other US states, Brazil, Canada or Australia), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, port or restrict the use of your personal information, to object to processing, to withdraw consent, and to complain to a data-protection authority.
10.2 Because we do not ask for your name or an account, we usually cannot link the identifiers held by Google back to you. To make a request, email apps.jabbari@gmail.com from the address you want us to reply to. If you can, include the App's analytics identifier or a description that helps us find the data. We will answer within the time the applicable law requires and may need to verify your request. You can also delete all data stored by the App on your device by deleting the App.
10.3 Other choices: iOS Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking; Settings › Privacy choices in the App (where shown); Settings › Browser › Search Engine Suggestions; Settings › Browser › Clear History and Website Data; and the permission switches in iOS Settings › Music IR.
10.4 We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the App is not directed at children. Because it includes unrestricted web access, it is rated for older users on the App Store. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under the higher minimum age set by the law where they live). If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email apps.jabbari@gmail.com and we will delete it.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our service providers (mainly Google) may process information in the United States and other countries whose data-protection laws differ from those where you live. Where the law requires, these transfers rely on safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or other lawful transfer mechanisms used by those providers.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we use reasonable measures for the information we handle, for example keeping your library on your device, filtering analytics events, using encrypted connections to Google's services, and storing App data in the iOS app sandbox. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for keeping your device, its passcode and its backups secure.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we may disclose the limited information we hold if we believe in good faith that the law, a court order or a competent authority requires it, or that it is necessary to protect the rights, property or safety of users, the public or the developer, or to enforce the Terms of Use. If the App or its operations are transferred to another developer, information may be transferred as part of that transfer, subject to this policy.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we may update this policy, for example when the App changes. The new version applies from its effective date at the top of this page. If a change is significant, we will also show a notice in the App or in the App's update notes. Continuing to use the App after the effective date means you accept the updated policy, unless the law requires your consent, in which case we will ask for it.
